Summer is the most crucial time of year for transitioning your wardrobe. Maybe it’s just me but I am much more often out and about during the workweek than I am in the winter months. It seems obvious, but it’s better to plan ahead. Whether it’s meeting friends for dinner, a date night, heading out on the boat, seeing a concert, even catching a flight for the weekend, you’re more likely to be making a quick transition. There’s just more going on!
These are the three easy steps I use to transition from work day to post-work play.
Find a Staple Piece
I love finding main pieces, such as a pant or dress, that look and feel great in both situations. The larger the piece the less changing you have to do. A dress, a jumpsuit are your best kind, but transition a shirt, skirt or pair of pants help too.
These linen pants by Beach.Lunch.Lounge were a spur of the moment buy simply because they were cute and beyond comfortable. Now, I feel like I can wear them in any situation. In this case I wore them to work, then on the boat. They kept me cool until they had to keep me warm. They transition between both environments and look good in so many ways. Whether it’s with heels or flats, simple neutrals or fun mixed patterns, they match, fit and just work.

Mix Up Your Shoes + Purse
I really don’t like dragging my big day purse around town if I can help it. I’ll often grab a smaller crossbody or hobo to quickly transition all my necessary items. It changes up the outfit and it is more logical when you aren’t lugging your notebook, water bottle, lunch box…or is that just me??
Shoes too, that’s obvious I think. They change up an outfit more than a shirt. Your shoes tell the story of what you’re doing most of the time. Typically they are a little more buttoned-up for the office so have some fun with an extra pair for later!

Lips
Every day I wear a layer of chap stick and a layer of a neutral gloss at work. It’s just my go-to. I think it’s classy, keeps you fresh, and helps you feel that more put together. My favorite trick is keeping that fun red or bright pink lipstick, stain, or even just another shade of gloss in my bag. You’ll be ready for a happy hour or dinner with two swipes. My favorite transitional glosses right now are the new Marc Jacobs Beauty – Enamored Hydrating Lip Gloss Stick. They go on amazing, stay on for a while and are super lightweight. They don’t dehydrate your lips at all and I can go from Uh-huh Honey for day to Candy Bling at night!
Voila! Easy! Just keep everything in your car and you’ll never feel not ready.
