I was thinking with the upcoming long weekend for Memorial Day how I regret not booking a vacation or making bigger and better plans to seek out some ultra-fulfilling activity or adventure. Then I had a moment. Why can’t you still have a weekend getaway without actually going anywhere?
It’s safe to say that “busy” and “always going” and “the never-ending to-do list” are all very much real, existing, everyday circumstances that prevent us from truly enjoying day-to-day life. It’s rare that we let ourselves, for fear of getting behind, stop and (literally) smell the roses. We don’t take the time to realize the greatness in the current moment, or we are always barreling forward to find the next “experience”. I, for one, am extremely guilty of this.
Why on earth do we do this to ourselves? Telling ourselves we need to spend money to find fun, pressure ourselves with planning, find somewhere else that’s “better” when in reality we are just consciously adding stress. No matter where you are there are beautiful things to see, awesome places to go, and delicious things to eat all around you. So, I think the next time you have a free weekend, don’t stress, and just casually choose one (or all) of the following activities to fill the weekend with fulfilling activities. It’s much easier than you think to enjoy a “weekend getaway” without actually going anywhere.

So this is not quite a “travel” post like you saw from my New Orleans post, but I hope this can be helpful if you did choose to get out of town too. I hoped to keep it generic enough to inspire a weekend in ANY city, as well as your own. I’m off to Charleston, South Carolina next weekend (my favorite city in the country) and I’m SO EXCITED. However, it’s for my BFF’s bachelorette so a blog post/travel guide may have to come with a different trip but definitely follow my Instagram Stories to see everywhere we go!!
Finally, mother earth seems to be slowly waking up for a beautiful summer ahead. Let me know if any of you choose to make your weekend more of a “weekend getaway” without actually going anywhere. What museums did you go to? Parks explored? New bars or coffee shops you found? Let me know, I always want to know! Drop a comment below but make sure you have some FUN this weekend!! Happy Memorial Day weekend hunnies!!
